It was a beautiful Saturday and the trails were packed by the time I got to Little Haystack. Some trails or park services may be closed this weekend so check with local authorities before heading out.
![]() ![]() Flume Slide was a slippery btch, but I was glad to be going up it and not down. Smooth sailing with very few people from Flume to Little Haystack, lots of people and no visibility on Lincoln or Lafayette. Ill have to come back when theres no clouds for the views E M. Meet a bear cub in the parking lot at Lincoln visitor center at 8:30a but he was more interested in the Dumpster than me. It was a bit muddy at times as we climbed but all very doable. It was breezy so having a light jacket was key for mountain top. Wish I could have peak bagged to Mount Liberty but ran out of time. Stopped on each peak to snap a few pictures and went on running. Brought a Nalgene bottle and a 2 liter camel pack but ran out of water between Liberty and Flume. Decided not to and was rewarded with muscle spasms and a 2 day headache. Rookie mistake. The bridle trail up Lafayette is one of the best trails Ive ever hiked up and Flume is the worst Ive ever hiked down. Highly suggest starting on the bike path going south past the Basin and hitting the flume first (only if its dry) and then going north to Lafayette. Chip Howard Sat Jul 27 2019 styles-moduleinfoTrailDetails23Xx3 Hiking What an excellent loop. The first part of Flume felt so easy- until I hit the rocks Scrambling up that mountain required all fours and was a fun trip that I thought I banged out pretty well, until I got passed by someone like I was standing still. This was a very challenging climb and I do not recommend it for people that are unfamiliar with difficult trails. Once up to Mount Flume- the beauty of the whites took my breath away. It was a fairly quick trip from there to Mount Liberty, then onto Little Haystack. From there, on the Franconia ridge, it was a nice hike to Mount Lincoln and then Lafayette.
